Data Engineer

Overview

Dovetail Software is seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our team. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our new SaaS data infrastructure in AWS. We plan on using technologies such as AWS DMS, Glue, S3, Athena for ETL and warehouse and Pyramid Analytics as our BI platform. You will play a key role in building the new data pipeline and data warehouse as well as ensuring the availability, reliability, and performance of our data systems and pipelines, enabling business intelligence, analytics, and data-driven decision-making for our customers and across our organization. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and ETL processes in AWS to collect, process, and store data from various sources in a scalable and reliable manner.
• Data Warehousing: Develop and maintain data warehouses and databases in AWS to support business intelligence and analytics needs. 
• Data Integration: Integrate data from various internal and external sources (APIs, databases, third-party systems) into the company's SaaS offering and internal data ecosystem.
• Data Modeling: Create and maintain data models, including conceptual, logical, and physical designs to support efficient data storage, retrieval, and analysis.
• Data Quality and Governance: Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and quality through data validation, auditing, and governance practices.
• Collaboration: Work closely with data analysts, software engineers, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and implement solutions.
• Performance Optimization: Monitor and improve the performance of data systems, including tuning databases, optimizing queries, and ensuring the scalability of the infrastructure.
• Automation: Develop scripts and tools to automate recurring data tasks, enhance workflow efficiency, and support data-related initiatives.
• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive technical documentation of data systems, processes, and procedures.
• Security: Implement security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

Skills and Experience:

• 3+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or a related role.
• Proficiency with programming languages used in Data Engineering such as Python, Java, or Scala as well as experience with SQL.
• Experience with data pipeline tools like AWS Glue, Apache Airflow, or Luigi (especially in an AWS environment).
• Familiarity with data warehousing technologies such as Athena, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or similar.
• Experience building a data pipeline and data warehouse from the beginning
• Strong experience with ETL tools and processes (especially AWS Glue).
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Knowledge of AWS.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with data visualization and BI tools like Pyramid Analytics, Tableau, or Power BI
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
