Systems Operations Engineer

Overview

Dovetail Software is hiring a systems operations engineer to work on the hosting, operations, infrastructure, and security behind our HR Case Management SaaS product. We’re looking for someone who has a strong background in AWS technologies, automation using scripting languages (Ruby, Python, etc), with a strong commitment to software quality, automation, security, reliability, and scalability.  You’ll be working on a small team that manages and develops automated infrastructure to host software for large businesses on top of the latest AWS technologies. You will work directly with the rest of the development and operations teams in building and maintaining the hosting infrastructure behind the product and making the best use of the AWS technologies for scalability and reliability.

NOTE: This position will involve frequent work on Saturdays. We are willing to discuss flexible schedules.

Our operations software development practices and technologies include:

• Continuous integration
• Git and Github (for SCM and issue tracking)
• Github projects
• Frequent deployments
• HashiCorp Terraform
• HashiCorp Packer
• Ruby
• Amazon Web Services (ECS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, EC2, etc)
• AWS Aurora (MySQL)

The typical Systems Operations Engineer responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Monitoring the health and efficiency of the hosting platform in AWS
• Responding to events and keeping the system health and customers happy
• Improving the infrastructure of the hosting platform with automation
• Improving the security of the hosting platform with automation
• Working with the development and QA team to improve the software’s use of the infrastructure to improve functionality, increase performance, and manage cost.
• Assist the support team in diagnosing and fixing issues reported by customers
• Peer code and infrastructure reviews with a high level of attention to detail

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a systems operations, devops, or similar role -- both managing systems in AWS and also scripting and automation.
• Ability to work remotely.  Living in the Austin area is preferred but not required
• Ability to code in Ruby, Python, and/or JavaScript/NodeJS, build Lambda functions and Linux-based docker containers
• Experience managing servers in production environments (experience with Linux is a must; Windows is a bonus)
• Experience managing production environments in AWS
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Great attention to detail
• Organizational skills
• Familiarity with MySQL is a plus
• CDK experience is a bonus
• CS or IS degree is a plus
