Changing the login info in bolt results in a Permission denied error (Article # 277)

View products that this article applies to.

Problem:

Using the admin page in BOLT to set the BOLT database connection infomation, and then clicking submit can result in the following error:

HTTP 500.100 - Internal Server Error - ASP error
Internet Information Services

Microsoft JScript runtime (0x800A0046)
Permission denied
/bolt/admin2.asp, line 77

Resolution:

The issue is that the user running the web application doesn't have permission to modify the connection information, which is stored in the bolt.udl file.

Two ways to solve this issue:

1. Modify the bolt virtual directory in Internet Services Manager, and set the anonymous access user to be a user who has permission to modify this file.

2. Modify the security permissions on the bolt.udl file, so that the anonymous web user (such as MYMACHINE\IUSR_MYMACHINE) has write access to the bolt.udl file.
