Problem:
Recommended Application Protection for First Choice Web Apps (fcClient, fcAdmin, fcSelfService)
Resolution:
It is recommended to run in High Isolation Mode.
This is especially important when using First Choice Web Apps with the fcSDK (FCFL.NET). This will allow each web app running on the same system to run in its own process.
To set your web app to run in High Isolation Mode depends on the specific Windows and IIS versions. Please see below for the specific Windows and IIS version combination you have.
Windows 2000, IIS 5; Windows XP Professional IIS 5.1:
- Open Internet Services Manager (Start->Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Internet Services Manager)
- Expand the tree under your server to find the virtual root for fcClient
- Right-click on the virtual root folder and choose Properties
- When the Properties window comes up, the "Virtual Directory" tab should be selected by default. Near the bottom of that tab there should be a drop-down with the words "Application Protection" to the left. Select the value 'High (Isolated)'
Windows 2003, IIS 6:
- Open Internet Services Manager (Start->Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Internet Services Manager)
- Right-click on the 'Application Pools' folder, select New, select 'Application Pool'
- When the 'Add New Application Pool' window appears, give the new pool a meaningful name like 'fcClientAppPool' and ensure that 'Use default settings' is selected, then hit OK
- Expand the tree under your server to find the virtual root for fcClient under your web site (usually Web Sites\Default Web Site)
- Right-click on the virtual root folder and choose Properties
- When the Properties window comes up, the "Virtual Directory" tab should be selected by default. Near the bottom of that tab there should be a drop-down with the words "Application Pool" to the left. Select the name of the application pool you just created in the previous steps (i.e. 'fcClientAppPool')
