Introducing Personal Slack Notifications using Dovetail Rulemanager

August 21, 2018 When employees are notified as part of a business rule action, the notification method is determined by the employee’s notification preference. We've recently added support for Slack as a personal notification preference. The default notification methods are: Email Notifier Forward to my Supervisor Tone Pager Text Pager Digital Pager None Dovetail Rulemanager also supports SMS, which will send an SMS message (text message) to an employee’s configured device, typically their mobile phone. Refer to a previous post SMS Notifications using Dovetail Rulemanager. Now, Dovetail Rulemanager also supports Slack as a notification preference. Instead of getting notified by email, a user can choose to receive notifications within Slack. What is Slack Slack is essentially a chat room and messaging platform for your whole company, commonly used to replace email as your primary method of communication and sharing. Slack Notifications Instead of getting notified by email, a user…

SMS Notifications using Dovetail Rulemanager

August 15, 2017 When employees are notified as part of a business rule action, the notification method is determined by the employee's notification preference. The default notification methods are:EmailNotifierForward to my SupervisorTone PagerText PagerDigital PagerNoneDovetail Rulemanager recently added support for one additional option: SMSAn SMS notification will send an SMS message (text message) to an employee's configured device, typically their mobile phone.  SMS Notification Message Users can set their notification preferences for SMS, just like any other preference. SMS Notification PreferenceCouldn't we do this before? In the past, if you wanted to send SMS messages, we would typically use a custom replacement paging application for Rulemanager. This custom script would call into a 3rd party web service, or  use the cell provider’s email to SMS gateway. These solutions all required custom scripts, and ended up being additional processes that Rulemanager needed to…

New home for Rulemanager companion wiki

October 27, 2014 Back in 2010 I created a wiki for sharing Rulemanager knowledge that went along with some Rulemanager and Business Rule webinars that I was doing. At the time, wikispaces was a great place to host a free wiki. They recently announced that they are no longer offering a free wiki option. So, I’ve moved my rulemanager wiki to Github. You can now find it at https://github.com/gsherman/rulemanager/wiki Github I really dig Github for being able to share and collaborate on projects. We use it internally for hosting our codebases, we use Github Issues for issue tracking, we use their wiki features, and gists for sharing code snippets. In their own words: “GitHub is the best place to share code with friends, co-workers, classmates, and complete strangers.” I agree. What else do we share on Github? Tons of stuff! Bolt – a…

New in Rulemanager: Support for Multiple email addresses for a contact or employee

October 5, 2011 Earlier this summer I blogged some thoughts around multiple email addresses for a contact or employee. I wanted to throw out a little update about how we’re addressing this. We’re addressing this in two ways – via Rulemanager, and via DovetailAgent. I’ll cover the DovetailAgent changes in a future post. Rulemanager We’ve modified Dovetail Rulemanager so that it supports multiple email addresses in a single email field. This could be on the employee or on the contact’s email field. The email addresses can be separated by a comma, semicolon, or a space. Lets see it in action I’ve created a new employee with the ever-so-descriptive name of “Multiple Emails” This employee has two SMTP addresses in the one email address field: If I have a business rule that notifies this employee, I can see that the notification gets sent to…

Rulemanager webinar follow-up

July 8, 2010 Thanks to those that attended today’s webinar on Rulemanager. We had a good turnout, and some good questions from attendees. Slides The slides from today’s presentation are available on Slideshare.   Links Rulemanager Wiki: http://rulemanager.wikispaces.com/ Blogs: https://clarify.dovetailsoftware.com/search/?q=rulemanager Knowledgebase Articles: http://www.dovetailsoftware.com/resources/solutions/rulemanager.aspx Code I was asked to share the script I used to post a message to Campfire using a web service. I’ve posted CampfireSpeak.bat and CampfireSpeak.ps1 to github: http://github.com/gsherman/powershell And here’s the business rule message I used: c:powershellcampfirespeak.bat [Object Type] [Object ID] has been dispatched to the [Current Queue] queue. http://myserver/agentlite/cases/summary/[Object ID] Also, you do this same thing using curl without using Powershell. I blogged how to do this previously here. Upcoming Webinar: Advanced Business Rules I’ll be doing a follow-up webinar in 2 weeks. Upcoming Free Training Webinars: Rulemanager and Business Rules

June 28, 2010   A few months ago, I threw out some thoughts regarding Clarify training and knowledge: One of the themes I’ve picked up on recently is that there seems to be a lot of organizations who still use Clarify /Amdocs, but not to its full potential. Nowhere near its full potential. I’ve recently talked to a bunch of people who don’t really know how to use it fully, extend it, what functionality is available, or even how to maintain it. I’ve seen the same issue on both sides of the house: Technical IT resources who don’t know how to customize it, what all of the moving components are, what to do when something goes wrong, or even where to look for knowledge, Business resources who don’t fully know what the product is capable or what exactly they even have. For example,…

Rulemanager Usage

June 14, 2010 I posted a quick (less than 30 seconds to complete) survey last week regarding Rulemanager usage. Current results: Do you user Rulemanager? 100% said yes Which Rulemanager do you use? 60% said Clarify/Amdocs Rulemanager. 40% said Dovetail Rulemanager. Version of Clarify? Various – from Clarify 9.0 up to Amdocs CES 8.   The survey is still open, so if you’re a Clarify user, I would appreciate it if you would take a few seconds and fill it out. Thanks!
